Astronauts announced tonight that they have signed right-handed Matt Bowman Sign a minor league contract and assign him to triple sugar land. Bowman was released by the Orioles earlier today, but has now found a new organization that can call home for the rest of the 2025 campaign.
Bowman, 34, made his debut in 2016 and spent four seasons with the Cardinals and the Reds, scoring 3.67 FIP at the major league level with a score of 4.02 ERA and 3.67 FIP in 183 games, and then injured for a few years. He returned to the Grand Slam in 2023, serving as a member of the Yankees for three games and rebounded between four clubs in 2024 before eventually becoming an Orioles member last August. He re-signed a minor league contract last offseason after posting a 3.45 ERA with a strikeout rate of 21.2% in 15 games in Baltimore and was out of the club’s roster.
Bowman was briefly added to Baltimore’s 40-man lineup in March to prevent him from exiting the deal, but quickly replaced minors with minors on opening day and was only selected as the roster again on March 30. He was elected three times in 2025, but in mid-2025, in the entire 24 2/2/2/20 labor, he encountered 15/2/20 labor at 6.20, a 2/3 labor rate, and a 2/3 labor rate in the company is 15/3 labor. Roster moves. His 4.10 ERA in 26 1/3 innings with Triple-A Norfolk isn’t completely inspiring, either, though his 21.8% strikeout rate on these outings is certainly an improvement.
Now, Bowman will try to take on his role in Houston. If the club is interested in bringing him to the 40-man squad, the right-hander will be eligible for the playoffs as he is able to join the group by September 1, at which point any new members of the group will not fit in the playoff squad. Of course, Bowman will get a lot of consideration for the club’s playoff roster, as it’s unclear whether the Astros will offer him an opportunity in all MLB rosters this September.
