Jack Draper and Cameron Norrie led Great Britain to victory over Norway in the first round of 2026 Davis Cup qualifying. After returning on Thursday, Draper defeated Viktor Durasovich 6-2, 6-2, before Norrie defeated Nikolai Budkov Kjaer 6-4, 6-4.
GB then took an undisputed 3-0 lead in Friday’s match as Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool beat Durasovic and Budkov Kjaer 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(5). In a tense doubles match, Cash and Glasspool were at their best in the third set tie-break, using aggression and serving to claim victory after one hour and 59 minutes in Oslo. The pair won seven tour-level titles together last year, including Wimbledon.
This is Draper’s first match since playing Sebastian Baez in the first round of the U.S. Open in August. The southpaw rose to a career-high fourth place in the PIF ATP Rankings last season and lifted his first ATP Masters 1000 trophy in Indian Wells. The 24-year-old is out with a broken arm. Casper Ruud has not played for Norway since giving birth to her first child last week.
Team GB will compete in the second round of Davis Cup qualifying in September. The quarter-finals will be held in Bologna in November, with eight teams competing for the trophy over six days. Italy is the three-time defending champion.
The two-day match between Japan and Austria begins on Friday. Yosuke Watanuki gave Japan the lead with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sebastian Ofner, before Yuri Rodionov equalized for Austria with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Shintaro Mochizuki.
