Steve Kouleas: “So I want to be part of this. Alex Tuch, what’s the latest, is this going to be a fast show or a slow show, Dave?”

NHL Rumors: Sabers Tax and Alex Tuch

Dave Pannotta: “The status quo is. That’s my understanding. The lines of communication are open. Everyone still thinks both sides want to try to work it out, but they don’t want to rush things right now, and the way the season started, they just want to make sure they’re in a good position. The Sabers did that and then got back to the table.”

Listen, he wants to stay, he’s willing to stay, but my sense is, he’s also in a position, Alex Tucker was, where he wants to be paid accordingly and get a competitive contract, and, similar to (Artemi) Panarin in terms of mentality, if he gets to that point, he could be one of the top dogs that hits the open market on July 1st. So it would take a big deal to get him.

In terms of AAV, that’s probably eight figures, and depending on the terminology and structure, that would determine how high up in the 10 figures we are? Are we in the 11th century now? If he gets to July 1st, or is likely to go there, and there’s really a big fish or two in that pond, then that number will go up.

Are the Sabers willing to get to this point? That’s what they need to figure out. “
