Steve Kerr calls early schedule the toughest of his career

Warriors struggle to cope with opening season

The Golden State Warriors are off to one of their toughest starts to the 2025-26 season. By the time the back-to-back ends this week in Florida, the team will have played 17 games in 29 days. To make matters even more challenging, 12 of the 17 races are on the road.

The Warriors face the Orlando Magic on Tuesday and the Miami Heat on Wednesday. After these games, the Golden State Warriors will finally get a short break before heading back to the West Coast.

Kerr said the schedule is unlike anything he has ever seen

Head coach Steve Kerr didn’t hesitate when describing the early ordeal. He told “95.7 The Game” in an interview, “The Miami game will be our 17th game in 29 days in 13 different cities. This is the toughest early schedule I have ever experienced in my entire NBA career.”

This comes from the Kerr weight. He played in the league for 15 seasons from 1988 to 2003. He later worked as a broadcaster, executive and now as the long-time head coach. In total, he spent nearly 40 years in the NBA. Despite all this experience, he found this opening to be unusually demanding.

Veteran list feels the effect

Golden State’s core isn’t built around young players, which makes nonstop travel even more difficult. Kerr praised the team’s resilience but acknowledged the heavy workload has forced internal discussions about rest.

“I thought our guys played really well, but there’s definitely some considerations going into this back-to-back game,” Kerr said. His comments noted that lineup adjustments may be made against the Magic or Heat to manage fatigue.

A short stop before returning to the west

The Warriors will finally have Thursday off, although the day still requires a return trip to California. They return home on Friday for an NBA Cup game against the Portland Trail Blazers at Chase Center. This game is only their sixth home game in their first 18 games.

The Golden State Warriors are hoping a more balanced schedule later in the season will allow the team to regain rhythm and consistency after a rough first month.
