The Edmonton Oilers (10-10-5) host the Dallas Stars (14-5-4) on Tuesday night (Nov. 25) in the only game on the NHL slate. On November 4, the Stars met for the first time in Dallas, defeating the Oilers 4-3 in overtime. The Stars also won the game with an 8-3 victory. This is your game review.

The visiting team took the lead in scoring just 3 minutes and 48 seconds into the first quarter. Wyatt Johnston made no mistake as he looped the puck into the net and passed it in the backdoor to Jamie Benn, who made no mistake for his first goal of the season and the 400th of his career. Then, Dallas made another strong attack at 10 minutes and 51 seconds into the game. Miro Heiskanen’s one-time shot was blocked, but Roup Hinz grabbed the rebound and buried it for his sixth goal of the season.

Stars continue to dominate. Nathan Bastian sliced the puck along the boards and started a two-on-one rush. He ripped the ball off goalie Stuart Skinner’s glove for just the second time this season. With 1 minute and 14 seconds left in the first quarter, Sam Steele made the score 4-0. Ben’s shot was blocked, but Steele grabbed the rebound and scored. Dallas took an 8-5 lead at halftime. Calvin Pickard replaced Skinner to start the second period.
The Oilers took the lead 4:39 into the second quarter. In the early scramble, Connor Clattenburg found the loose puck and buried it past goaltender Jake Oettinger for his first NHL goal.
The Stars restored their four-goal lead thanks to a strong 5-on-3 defense. Tyler Seguin went low and found Jason Robertson for a backdoor pass. Later, Johnston improved the score to 6-1. Another scramble in front of the Edmonton net resulted in Johnston pouncing on the loose puck, and he made no mistake. Dallas led 6-1 after two quarters and led 23-15 in total.
Edmonton led 6-2 just 1:23 into the final frame. Evan Bouchard added his fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick.
But Dallas responded 8 minutes and 21 seconds after the start of this quarter. The wrist shot was blocked in front, but Justin Herjovian found the puck and knocked it into the net.
The goals kept coming and the Oilers improved the score to 7-3. Connor McDavid’s shot bounced off Jake Roslovic, who beat Oettinger on the rebound.
Bastian added Game 2 in the Edmonton net. The Stars forced a turnover and he beat Pickard’s blocking side. Oettinger stopped 22 of 25 shots in the win, posting a save percentage (SV%) of .880. Meanwhile, the Oilers’ goaltenders stopped a combined 22 of 30 shots in the lopsided loss.
The Stars will end their four-game road trip on Wednesday (Nov. 26) against the Seattle Kraken in the second half of a back-to-back. Meanwhile, the Oilers have a few days off before traveling to Seattle to face the Kraken on Saturday (Nov. 29). The two teams will conclude their three-game season series on March 12 in Dallas.
