Stan Wawrinka joins a star-studded lineup at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. The clay-court ATP 500 confirmed on Thursday that the former PIF ATP No. 3 has accepted a wild card for the event taking place from April 13 to 19, 2026.
Wawrinka, 40, won 16 tour-level titles in his final season on the ATP Tour and holds a 12-6 record in Barcelona, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. He reached the semi-finals consecutively in 2006 and 2008. In 2025, Wawrinka returned to the Royal Barcelona Tennis Club-1899 to compete after an absence of 16 years.
Wawrinka was also recently confirmed as a wild card for the Gonet Geneva Open, which runs from May 17-23. The Swiss lifted his most recent ATP Tour trophy in 2017 at the ATP 250 clay court event on his home soil.
Wawrinka competes in Barcelona with world number one, local favorite and two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz. Top 10 stars Lorenzo Musetti, Alex de Minaur and Felix Auger-Aliassime will also compete in Catalonia, as will Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev, Jack Draper and Arthur Fils.
Swiss star Wawrinka has created many unforgettable moments since announcing he would end his illustrious career in 2026. The three-time Grand Slam champion has a 6-8 record on tour this year, including a third-round match at the Australian Open in January. On February 16, Wawrinka returned to the top 100 for the first time since July 2024.
