Sonoma Valley’s greatest Montgomery season first win – News Democrats

The running race in Sonoma Valley helped Dragons win Montgomery on Friday night in Santa Rosa’s 28-22 victory.

Dragons Senior ran back to Cayden Waldrop for 202 rushing yards (107 appearances in the first half) and two rushing touchdowns.

“Cayden Waldrop is obviously our guy,” said Sonoma Valley head coach Max Pond. “We’re just trying to get more than five yards at a time and he often makes more.”

“If we need a yard, we know we get it,” Benicio Reyes said of his teammate Waldrop.

Reyes also made two touchdowns through the air, his first yard was going out from five yards and his second yard was 27 yards.

“Benicio is like our O-Line General,” Pound said. “He is a guide to traffic, neighborhoods and everything.”

Sonoma Valley also continues Montgomery to 51 yards.

“Our guys found it enough to win,” Pound said. “I like the physical condition we play in running.”

Ponder said that Dragon was knocked down on the offensive line and he hoped to restore their starter to its original state as soon as possible.

“Once that happens, I feel like we’re going to be a top team that stops when it comes to running,” Pound said. “Montgomery has a game plan that loads boxes and they have athleticism outside.”

Waldrop said the dragon’s practice week helps win on Friday.

“Everyone shows up, everyone knows,” Waldrop said. “We got kicked on Sacramento’s ass last week.”

Although the Vikings didn’t get the results they wanted, they fell to 0-2 this season, head coach Anthony Bautista was proud of their fighting style compared to last week’s 41-6 loss to Petaluma.

Compared to last week, he was glad that their turnovers were limited, but was not satisfied with their several touchdown fines.

“When you’re behind the chain of 20 to 30 yards, you won’t be able to win the game,” Bautista said. “It’s something that can be coached, but from the last two games we have to work harder on discipline and eliminating penalties.”

Montgomery has not yet had its starting quarterback Thor Boswell, and Joe Laqere has both suffered damage to Petaluma.

But Bautista is confident in his second string player to take on these roles.

Oliver Wuethrich filled 152 yards, 13 yards and 3 touchdowns in quarterbacks, two Deysean Akins, one Dax Black.

“What I saw tonight was exactly what I expected him to do,” Bautista said of Worthrie. “He’s a gamer, he’s smooth in his pocket, he knows how to strengthen, expands some drama – we tailored it for his game plan, got him successful and nailed the game.”

Running William Jimenez made the start of Laqere on Friday.

“I didn’t expect it to be no different from being a starter tonight,” Bautista said of Jimenez.

“I still totally believe we can get the job done, we did it,” Bautista said. “Just punishing killed us.”

Leqare’s ankle sprain is high. Boswell scheduled Saturday’s MRI, and Bautista thought he might have hamstring pressure. Bautista estimates that the couple may miss two to four weeks and hope to bring them back before the league game begins.

Sonoma Valley hopes to be in the victory column against Justin Siena next Friday at 7pm.

Montgomery’s road race at Miramonte at 7 p.m. that night is still looking for the first win of the season.
