Solheim Captain and Two-time Major Champion Stacy Lewis announces retirement

Stacy Lewis, a 17-year LPGA veteran, won 13 titles, including two major titles – and served as the U.S. Solheim Cup team in 2023 and 2024, and announced his retirement on Wednesday.
The news was posted on Lewis’ social media account before the LPGA’s Walmart Northwest Arkansas Champion, which will be broadcast for the 19th time this week. Lewis is an alumnus of the University of Arkansas, who competed four times at the University and won the Northwest Arkansas Championship in 2014.
“For a million years, I would think this journey of golf will continue to move forward in 2025, but it’s time to drive the club away,” Lewis wrote. “I’m going to end the 2025 season, but this will be my last time on the LPGA. I’m not sure what’s next [the] Way! ”
Lewis’ first LPGA win was the 2011 Kraft Nabisco Championship Grand Slam (now Chevron Championship). Over the next three years, she won 11 more wins, including her second major, the 2013 Ricoh Women’s British Open. In 2013, she ranked No. 1 in the world, the second American to rank first. Her last two wins were in 2017 and 2020.
In 2018, Lewis’ long-time sponsor KPMG made headlines when the company was elected to provide the full value of the contract for Lewis during maternity leave, a breakthrough decision that has since become a more mainstream decision.
Lewis, 40, said she looks forward to retire with her husband and daughter.
“I will miss this part of the LPGA Tour family and life, but my body has told me,” she wrote. “My husband is a part of the team and also seamlessly provides a tremendous balance and stability in my life. I look forward to our calendar being more synced and having more time as a family.”
Lewis’ retirement announcement made her the latest high-profile player, joining Brittany Lincicome, Lexi Thompson and Yeon Ryu. You can read Lewis’ full statement here.
