ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reported that the Cubs will replace an outfield prospect on Monday. Kevin Alcantara Will be from Iowa Trio A and Owen Caissie Received back to Triple A. Since Alcantara is already in the 40-man roster, no further trade is needed.
Alcantara made her debut last September, playing three games for the Cubs at the end of the 2024 season and was hit in 10 sets. This remains Alcantara’s only major league exposure as he has spent the entire 2025 campaign in Iowa. After taking offenses in 35 and three games in 2024, Alcantara has been playing this year, playing more than 430 sets this season with .266/.349/.470 Slash series and 17 home runs.
Alcantara has won the top 100 prospects in a few years, ranking 71st in the U.S. preseason rankings and 90th on the MLB Pipeline list. Despite his solid numbers this year, Alcantara actually pulled out of the top 100 updates in the two media mid-term, although both the BA and Pipeline ranked fifth in the Chicago Deep Chicago Farm System. The biggest red flag is his 29.8% strikeout rate at Triple-A, as his ability potential and hard contact ability can reduce a lot of swings and turnovers in his game, and the assessors also noted that Alcantara is only truly effective for fastball productivity.
Alcantara is likely to get a longer view in the profession now if Alcantara is not in a team that is so deep in the fielder. between Kyle Tucker,,,,, Pete Crow-Armstrong,,,,, Ian Happand Seiya Suzuki (As a part-time and regular part-time job at DH) both remained healthy and productive, with only four other players receiving any time off the Wrigley field in the 2025 season. Utilities Players Willi Castro,,,,, Jon Bertieand Vidal Brujan Everyone had a few games outfields, and Caissie made seven appearances on the grass in the 11 overall games he called in his first major league.
Caissie scored 25 PA and reached .208/.240/.375 in 6 of his 11 games. Given the crowded nature of the Chicago outfield, the lack of playtime is not surprising, but the rather quick relegation adds to the question of why Caissie was even called in the first place. Alcantara brings a more defensive versatility as he can play on the court, while Caissie is a corner outfielder.
Using top prospects as bench depth isn’t entirely ideal, though the Bears are a bit stuck between the twins’ desires that their minor leaguers have played every day (if the right term) and can also have the best active roster. As limited as these cameos, some experience given to Alcantara or Caissie in the major leagues may be beneficial before adding the playoff roster, or whether it will hurt one of the Cubs’ outfield regulars.
