Fans may be wondering if Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz are trying to embrace their new team identities in their street clothes at Thursday’s Nitto ATP Finals. Alas, the story behind the tag team’s “Shark Shadow” is more of a logistical issue.
Both Kravitz and Puez took to the pitch for the final match of the Peter Fleming Group against Simone Borrelli and Andrea Vavassori in luxurious sunglasses that were almost a parody of their Italian opponents’ own wear in Turin this week. When asked about the designs they chose for their light-hearted moments, Putz explained that the choices were limited.

“I ordered some glasses on Amazon a few days ago,” the 37-year-old told ATPTour.com. “We had the idea, but then we wanted to be serious because it was an important game. But today we were out and Italy qualified, so it doesn’t hurt if we put on sunglasses.”
“Amazon wasn’t coming through, they weren’t delivering, so we found a little store last night. It was actually my wife. She knows where these types of stores are. So we went there last night. That was the only thing they had, so we went with the sharks. We ordered [ones with] Was supposed to be a star but they didn’t deliver. ”
Kravitz joked: “It was a shark contract. We had to wear them. We had to come up with something because we saw Italians wearing sunglasses. So we brought them and it worked.”
Whether it has something to do with their new walk-on style or not, Krawietz and Puetz defeated Bolelli and Vavassori 7-6(5), 4-6, 13-11 to end the Peter Fleming Group’s run at the Nitto ATP Finals with a 1-2 record. While not enough to earn the 2024 champions a semi-final spot, perhaps it’s a sign that the Shark style is worth preserving…
“We have to wear them all the time now so we can win,” admitted Kravitz, who along with Puitz was named in Germany’s squad for next week’s Davis Cup quarter-finals. âWe never lost wearing them.â
