Seven amazing records that will never be broken

Since its inception in 1927, the Ryder Cup has caused incredible drama.

These years have witnessed some amazing feats – no surprise, as it has the world’s 24 best players.

Before the 45th match between the United States and Europe – the match took place on Bethpage Black in New York – Golf365 explores some records that may never be broken in a biennial match.

Most overall wins – Sergio Garcia (25)

The longer you think about it, the better the player who wins 25 games will be. The fastest route will be to play in five Ryder Cups and win each game – a ridiculous task – but it also means staying at the top of the game for a long time.

Sergio Garcia played 10 consecutive Ryder Cups between 1999 and 2021, playing 45 games during that period. He won 25 times, half and half, lost 13 times, and gave him 28.5 points, which is also a record. Both are huge feats.

Rory McIlroy has 16 wins in his still active competitors and 14 wins, but most points still look far away with Sergio’s most win records.

Victory Maximum Margin (15) – USA 23.5-8.5 in 1967

In recent years, we have seen some one-sided Ryder Cups. This includes the absolute hammering of the last time the game was held on U.S. Land when it was a 19-9 title on U.S. Land.

But of course, when the United States wins with a stunning 15 points, we will never see the 1967 game.

Ben Hogan’s team removed Dai Rees’s Great Britain (a day for European participation), with two family players Arnold Palmer and Gardner Dickinson scoring five points.

A little bit of wrinkle was the match that was over 32 points, rather than the 28 points at the time, so the range of such a huge winning margin was slightly higher. Getting a winning margin of more than 15 in the current era will mean a score of 22-6!

Most Ryder Cup wins twice in a row (7)

The European Modern Ryder Cup has better choices, but their longest winning sequences are three: 2002, 2004 and 2006 and 2010, 2012 and 2014.

But twice in history, the United States has won seven consecutive victories. The first was from 1935 to 1955, and until 1971 to 1983, with their last three feats after Europe joined in 1979.

The youngest captain – (34 years and 29 days) Arnold Palmer

The pressure involved in the Hyundai Ryder Cup means it’s a huge requirement for anyone to become a player and a captain. Indeed, we have seen that this year, Keegan Bradley decided to focus only on his captain role, despite being eligible for the player.

This means that it is unlikely that anyone will beat Arnie to become the youngest Ryder Cup captain ever.

It was in the Atlanta Sports Club in 1963, and the Great Man was not 35 years old. How did he perform? very good! Despite two roles, Palmer played all six games that year and won four games.

The oldest player – Ray Floyd (51 years, 18 days)

Phil Mickelson won the 2021 PGA championship at the age of 50, but still didn’t become the US Ryder Cup team later that year.

This suggests that players who reach his sixth decade will have a hard time automatically considering the quality of competition around him and are unlikely to get a captain’s draft pick given the mental and physical stress involved.

This means that Ray Floyd’s record of participation for the oldest player may stand forever.

He was 51 at the Bell Tower in 1989, but surprisingly, the old gangster still managed to win three points in his four games, beating Jose Maria Olazabal to help the United States with a dramatic 15-13 victory.

Two holes in the same Ryder Cup – K Club 2006

Only 24 players participated in the show, some of the matches ended early, so not all 3 shots were used, and it was no surprise that the one-on-one holes in the Ryder Cup were very rare beasts.

Indeed, in the 98-year history of the game, there are only six-five in Europe and only one from the United States. The first was Peter Butler from England in 1973.

So, given this trivial number, the two are excellent in the same Ryder Cup.

That was in the K Club in 2006. Paul Casey stood out in four games on the second day, winning the ace on the same hole (14th) on the second day of Scott Verplank (14th) in his 4- and 3-single defeat to Padraig Harrington.

The biggest win margin in 18 holes – 9 and 7

It seems shocking that anyone can win the Ryder Cup fours by 9 and 7. But it is almost impossible to understand when it is discovered that the world’s number one Scottie Scheffler is at the end of this beating.

Two years ago, the Scandinavian couple Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland scored two years ago when they humiliated Scheffler and Brooks Koepka the next day, and the game lasted only 11 holes.

Eberg later said: “Today is sometimes surreal. I have to pinch it a little bit.”
