Earlier today, news came out that Tyson Barrie announced his retirement from the NHL. When Barrie himself shared it, the message first surfaced in a video of DNVR Avalanche on X.
From there, words quickly spread and become formal. At the age of 34, Barrie retired from the NHL. Soon after, the league released information about his retirement.
Review of Barry’s career
Barry was once considered one of the best hockey defenders in the league. He showed real potential when he broke into the NHL with Colorado Avalanche in the 2011-12 season. Of course, players like Mikko Rantanen and Nathan Mackinnon help, but Barrie has the vision and delivery ability to make the most of it. He played 484 games in eight seasons in the Avalanche and scored 75 goals and 232 assists with 307 points.
After spending some time in Colorado, he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2019 infamous Nazem Kadri trade. He spent just one season in Toronto, playing 70 games and showing up in 70 games, and posted five goals and 34 assists with 39 points on 34 assists. From there, he signed with the Edmonton Oilers, where he once again thrived as a powerful expert with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. In 190 games with the Oilers, he scored 25 goals and 107 assists and scored 132 points.

Barrie’s run in Edmonton ended the Nashville Predator deal in the 2022-23 season. Although he still had four goals and 27 points in 65 games, his production dropped, although he still managed four goals and 23 assists. His final NHL stop appeared last season with the Calgary Flames, where he played 13 games and recorded a goal and two assists for three points.
Now, his career is officially over, with Barry leaving the game with 822 NHL games, 110 goals, 398 assists and 508 points.
