Red Sox is unlikely to trade Jarren Duran this summer

The Red Soxes, with a 55-49 record and seats on wildcard tables, appeared to be out of sales this summer even before trading the former franchise. Rafael Devers Last month I went to the Giants. There are a lot of speculations about the possibility that they can trade too much from outfield talent and move Jarren Duranbut it seems at least probably not in the card right now. ESPN’s Jeff Passan recently wrote that the Red Sox may be more or less standing Pat this summer, while New York Post’s Jon Heyman noted that Boston is “believe” Despite Padres’ interest, it’s unlikely to move Duran.
Masslive’s Sean McAdam offers more details on what’s going on around Duran. He suggested that although the deal involving Duran is “possible” At some point, the Red Sox tends to make such a deal in the offseason. McAdam then went on to point out that Padres offered Boston a three-person right-handed package Dylan stopsthe best prospect Ethan Salasand there is an unnamed prospect Leo That’s “It was quickly rejected.” It’s a pretty important offer, especially given that the Red Sox reportedly expressed interest in stopping in a conversation with San Diego this summer.
Duran is in a decent season but ends in eighth place in the crowded NL MVP match compared to his 2024 All-Star campaign. This year, Duran hit only .254/.321/.428, with a WRC+ of 104, with a lower-average defense in the outfield. While Padres clearly still believes the upside they saw when they gathered last year’s 6.8 FWAR, 8.7 Bwar seasons as they offer long-term prospects and pre-spin rent, it’s possible that the Red Soxes are looking to get a strong second half from Duran, which could boost his value, thereby boosting his value and possibly attracting attention from other clubs.
Perhaps the Red Sox are willing to turn down San Diego’s proposal, partly because the players they get are in the season themselves. Scease has long been regarded as one of the sport’s most talented pitchers, but he released 4.59 ERAs in 21 games this year, which is actually 10% worse than the ERA+ league average. His perimeter numbers are still strong, and some of his poor season numbers can be attributed to a nine-run four-inning implosion at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento in April. Even so, Scease does not have the Surefire Ace lineage he didn’t have a season ago. Salas has spent most of his back being occupied by stress fractures for most of 2025 after a tough season in high-level A.
While Padres have been frequently connected with Duran for a while, they are far from the only team that suits him well. The Phillies have a big hole in the left field, and the Astronauts desperately need a left-handed bat to help balance their roster, and the Royals need help everywhere in the outfield, even clubs that don’t need attack, just like the Pirates, given that he can reach free agent suitors after the 2028 season. It’s not an exhaustive team list, it’s the right team for Duran, as his combination of ups and long team controls may make him attractive to almost any team that hasn’t been stacked with the outfield talent itself yet.
