The ATP Tour heads to Montpellier this week for the indoor ATP 250 event at the Open Occitanie, where top 10 star and defending champion Felix Auger-Aliassim will headline the action.
Also drawn in the south of France is Stan Wawrinka, who is in the final year of his career, as well as top-30 stars Flavio Cobolli, Tallon Griekspoor and Tomas Machac. Meanwhile, home favorite Arthur Fells returns to competitive action for the first time since last July.
ATPTour.com looks at five things to watch this week.

1) Felix seeks quick response: Auger-Aliassime, ranked eighth in the PIF ATP Rankings, is aiming for a quick recovery after cramping forced him to withdraw from his Australian Open first-round match. The 25-year-old has a lot of confidence in Montpellier: he is the defending champion there and has won seven of eight ATP Tour titles indoors. Auger-Aliassime’s first opponent in France will be Wawrinka or Hamad Mededovic.
2) Fils return after six months: Home fans will welcome back one of France’s top stars in Montpellier as Arthur Fels returns to the ATP Tour after six months out with a back injury. He faced compatriot Valentin Royer in the first round. Fiers, 21, reached the semi-finals in his only appearance in Montpellier in 2023, but lost to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.
3) Wild card Wawrinka: The Swiss began his final year on the ATP Tour with a string of fighting performances at the Fed Cup and Australian Open, reaching the third round. Former world No. 3 Wawrinka now heads to Montpellier, where he will compete as a wild card and first face Serbian player Mededovic. Another former Big Ten star, Hubert Hurkacz, started in the qualifying round and went 4-1 in singles matches to help Poland lift the Fed Cup.
4) Top 30 stars in action: Like Auger-Aliassime, Coboly will be hoping to put Australia’s first-round exit behind them quickly under the roofs of Montpellier. The Italian is France’s second seed, while Taron Grikspoor is the third seed. Fourth seed Tomas Machac will be chasing his second ATP 250 title of the season after winning in Adelaide in mid-January.
5) The home team hopes that Doumbia/Rebull will lead the doubles lineup: Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul, who lifted the Montpellier trophy together in 2024, return this year as top seeds. Their opponents in the doubles draw include second seeds Jakob Schnatter and Mark Woerner, while Wawrinka is paired with big-serve favorite Giovanni Mpehi-Pericade.
