Rocky Mountain Fire Bud Black – MLB Trade Rumor

Rockies announced that manager Bud Black and backup coach Mike Redmond were fired. Warren Schaeffer (formerly the club’s third base coach) will serve as interim manager for the rest of the season, while batting coach and former manager Clint Hurdle will be Schaeffer’s interim bench coach.

Colorado's victory over Padres 9-3 has raised the Rockies' record to a tragic record of 7-33, which has allowed ROX to gradually challenge the all-time loss record set by the White Sox a year ago. In this context, it is no surprise that even a long-standing organization can see some changes in canoes. The Rockies took another outstanding coaching event in mid-April, when Hurdle went from special assistant to GM to his role as coach after Hensley Meulens was fired.

The 2025 campaign was No. 18 for Black as major league manager, with nine seasons in the 2007-15 year Padres and Rockies (2017-today). Black won the record in just four of these seasons as his 1193-1403 career record was broken by San Diego's 649-713 record and Colorado's 544-690 points. Although these numbers don’t support Black, his overall efficiency as a manager is still difficult to measure. Padres are in the partial reconstruction phase of Black's tenure, and the Rockies' problems are so numerous that it's hard to pick Black out, a special reason for the club's extreme struggles.

Black's arrival to Denver was the last success for the Rockies as the club entered the playoffs as a captain in his first two seasons (Black won NL honors of the year in 2017). However, ROX has lost six consecutive seasons since then, and the 2025 season seems to be the seventh in an increasingly frustrating baseball game. Colorado has already gotten rid of two of its worst seasons after losing 103 games in 2023 and 101 games last year.
