Recently, the former Manchester United captain went all out on Instagram to share a series of snapshots from a family holiday to celebrate his 54th birthday.
The photos and videos feature Keane’s moments splashing in the pool with his grandchildren, helping them build sand castles on the beach and smiling proudly as they had the youngest young (and third) grandchild earlier this year.
The title of his birthday post is as warm as the image itself: “Happy birthday to me. All the gifts I need.”
For someone whose career is built on perseverance and steel, this is a rare public glimpse of the most important moments.
It turns out that even the toughest captain has a soft center.
