Leeds is interested in signing ‘special’ star £40m

Leeds United hopes for Premier League trends this season and avoid relegation in their first season. The last six teams that were promoted were straightforward, but after the 2024/25 season, whites could rewrite the narrative.

Indeed, Daniel Farke’s team has signed seven new players. They added more Premier League experience to their team in the form of Sean Longstaff and used the defensive enhancement measures by signing three defenders, including Jaka Bijol.

However, Leeds is not yet completed and seems keen to strengthen the team further in the huge campaign, with another top star tied to the move.

Leeds’ next transfer target

It seems obvious that Farke signed the Premier League forward players to help complement the team that scored 100 points last season. Signing Longstaff, a man with 171 top appearances, can certainly outline that box.

Now, the Yorkshire side wants to bring another person with top experience to Elland Road, journalist Sebastien Vidal said. They are said to have signed Manchester City and England under-21 star James McAtee this summer to be “sharp”.

Citizens are said to value the offensive midfielder at about £40 million, and reported in front of the window that Nottingham Forest was rejected by a bid of £25 million.

James McTe

Since the forest is also interested in signing young people, this is by no means a simple contract that whites have to do.

Why McAtee makes a good signing

Despite appearing for junior club city last season, Salford-born Mcatee made a real impression when he got the chance. Pep Guardiola even called him a “special” player after her hat-trick against Salford City.

Indeed, the 22-year-old made only 27 appearances for citizens last season, amassing only 936 minutes. He still managed to find the back of seven net rebounds, averaging one goal every 133 minutes.

The 22-year-old won the Under-21 team in the European Championship this summer. He played all six games for Lee Carsley’s team, scoring once and winning two assists, setting up Omari Hutchinson in the final against Germany.

If the white man can sign McAtee this summer, he could have a lot of upgrades on his current tenth Brenden Aaronson. U.S. International played every game in every game in the championship last season, but sometimes worked for consistency.

On the surface, his second-level figure in the last semester was very strong. He scored nine times in 46 games and received two assists. However, the spells of six, seven and eight games without goals were far from ideal for Farke’s side.

Aaronson Leeds-Farke

On top of that, McAtee has a much better record on top flights. Aaronson played all season in the Premier League, packing at one time and assisting with 3 goals, scoring three goals in 36 games and 2383 minutes.

By contrast, Manchester City graduates have a full top football season at Sheffield United. He scored 3 times in 30 games or 1827 minutes and assisted with the same number. Last semester, he also scored 3 goals for the city in 15 games.

FBREF’s numbers throughout the Premier League season show that McAtee is also an upgrade for Aaronson.

For example, he averaged 1.23 into the free throw zone, while the progressive progression per 90 minutes was 2.76, while the Americans’ 0.61 pass went into the free throw zone, while the progressive move per game was 1.63.

McAtee costs around £40m and can upgrade Leeds’ midfield on a massive scale. Although Aaronson is outstanding under Farke, the consistency of City Star and the impact he has had in such a short time stands out.

The 22-year-old may be Farke’s dream choice to enhance Leeds’ midfield and bring more Premier League quality to Elland Road.
