Rory McIlroy makes bold Ryder Cup promise in Walker Cup video

Rory McIlroy knows the joy of beating Americans on the homeland in the Ryder Cup. The five-time main champion also felt the sting of losing the Pacers Cup.
So it’s no surprise that McIlroy, a 2007 GB&i team, lost the Walker Cup in Royal County Down, sending a confident and motivating message to Luke Poulter and the rest of the year’s GB&i Squad.
According to Golf Channel’s Brundy Romine, GB&I players received a one-minute video of McIlroy on Friday night, just a few hours after their four-man race started Saturday morning.
“It doesn’t feel like being a walker cup that plays the Walker Cup and can’t fully complete it, and then keep playing the Ryder Cup and being able to beat the Yankees in their own backyard,” McIlroy said in the message.
McIlroy then was part of the last Ryder Cup team, winning on Far From Land – the 2012 European team won the ‘Medina Miracle’ comeback, his message ended his message and promised a commitment to the 2025 Ryder Cup results at Bethpage Black.
“Please beat them because I know we’re going to beat them at Bethpage,” McIlroy said.

The 2025 British and Irish Walker Cup teams include Ryder Cup legend Ian Poulter and most recently American amateur breakthrough star Niall Shiels Donegan. Meanwhile, the United States includes world number one amateur Jackson Coyvin, amateur champion Ethan Fat and American amateur champion Mason Howell.
Poulter, a junior at the University of Florida, doesn’t remember watching McIlroy and his father storm in Medinah in 2012. But with his love for golf, he went back to watch his comeback. He thinks if he and GB & I need it this weekend at Cypress Point, then he will be able to rely on.
“thing [Ian Poulter] Just talk about it because they are in a dark position throughout the team, and in the group, they are all frustrated,” Luke Poulter said of the 2012 Ryder Cup on Friday. “It’s like never giving up; it’s going to happen. All you need is a little motivation and another team can go back to a dark place. We don’t really talk much, but at a moment like this, maybe a little bit will appear. But I’ve re-watched “Medina Miracle” a few times, giving me some inspiration to hope to play like him. ”
As for McIlroy, he is three weeks away from the 2025 European team to Bethpage Black, a slight loser for the Americans. McIlroy promises to win at Bethpage after the Europeans win at Rome in 2023. He didn’t shy away from that belief and planned to put a hat on a historic season, which he won a professional grand slam on Long Island.
“There is a reason every Ryder Cup in the last decade has been on the home team,” McIlroy said at the Irish Open earlier this week. “So, we know it will be very tough, but honestly, we have 12 people, the captains, vices and everyone else, and we all have all the ingredients. We just have to put them in the oven and hope it’s all about us. I’m excited for the opportunity, too. I’m also excited for the challenge, it’s a challenging environment, a challenge we hope we can make. Yes.
“I’ve basically done everything I want to do when I think of my career and the whole picture as a golfer,” McIlroy said. “After that, I think it’s a reward, but you have to reevaluate your goals. This year, one thing for me can reevaluate my goals, a away Ryder Cup, after everything that happened this year, I’ll look back on 2025 in 2025, and it’s impossible for me to think about it, if I could have enjoyed 20 years in the game, I’d win everything in the year. The best year of my career.”
