Ron Washington hopes to manage Angels in 2026

In late June, the Angels announced that manager Ron Washington would continue to take sick leave for the rest of the season. The team respected his privacy and did not provide any further details at the time. The 73-year-old captain updated the media’s health this afternoon.
Washington revealed to Halos Beat that he had four times bypass surgery, which was blocked from the heart valve about two months ago (via MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger and Athletic’s Sam Blum). As Washington revealed he quickly came together after he swelled around his ankles during the Bronx game from June 16 to 19. Washington said the frightening situation prompted him to quit smoking and improve his diet and sleep habits.
The baseball lifeguard said he expected to be fully medically cleared in December. He has a clear desire to return to management in 2026. Washington said it was his goal with the Angels (relayed by Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register). There is reason to think that the Angel would welcome him back, but the team didn’t say about his contract. Washington signed a two-year contract when he was hired as a 2024 season. The club offers options for services in 2026.
Substitute coach Ray Montgomery will continue to be the interim manager for the rest of the year. The Angels entered the season-high eight games tonight’s series in Texas. MLBTR continues to wish us good wishes as we complete our recovery.
