Chris Paul wants to win before retirement
Chris Paul made it clear: The 2024-25 NBA season is not just about pursuing a long-term elusive championship. It’s also about enjoying the journey – perhaps more important than ever.
The 12-time All-Star will return to the Los Angeles Clippers, who has led to multiple playoff appearances and he still maintains a game. Paul ended up choosing the Clippers after leaving the San Antonio Spurs this summer and weighing retirement because he believed in their competitiveness.
“I’m very excited about the team’s actions during the offseason – Brad came to the team, Brook Lopez, all the young people,” Paul said. “I talked to James,” he said. [Harden]I talked to Kawhi [Leonard]I’m even more excited about what we think we have the opportunity to do. ”
Accept the benchmark role
Although Paul initially hoped to start his next team, he accepted the role of the bench – a major change after two decades as general. But Paul did not back down on his leadership responsibilities.
“My role on this team is obviously different from the role I have in the NBA over the past 20 years,” he explained. “But it comes out every day and if I can show some people the look of the clock every day, I’m excited about it.”
Paul knew at the age of 40 that his NBA clock was over. This is likely his last season. That’s why he approached part of it with a new mindset.
“All of you guys who have seen me play for a while, I’m going to try to do better and try to laugh more in this year’s smile,” Paul said at his Clippers press conference. “I’m grateful. I’ll come out every night no matter what it looks like and try to make sure I show up for the team.”
With the addition of Bradley Beal and Brook Lopez, Paul’s enthusiasm for accepting the new role, the Clippers could be a serious title threat – Paul may just find a happy target in the chase.
