Richaun Holmes signs a two-year deal with Panathinaikos

According to Michael Scotto of Hoopshype, NBA veteran Richaun Holmes has agreed to a two-year contract with Panathinaikos, which will make him one of the highest-paid players in Europe.
Richaun Holmes played 10 NBA seasons
Holmes turned 32 in October and was selected as No. 37 by the Philadelphia 76ers at the 2015 NBA Draft at Bowling Green State University. He has played for five different teams over the past decade.
The Illinois locals spent their first three NBA seasons with the Sixers, averaging 7.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.1 blocks and 16.9 minutes in 156 games and 20 games.
During the 2018 offseason, the Sixers traded Sherlock Holmes to Phoenix. He played 70 games and scored four games with the Suns in his sole season, with 12.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.
His best years were working as a full-time starting center for the team at the Sacramento Kings. In the 2020-21 season, he recorded a career high of 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks.
Holmes has played less roles in recent years, including in the 2024-25 campaign, when he made 31 appearances for the Washington Wizards, averaging 7.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 0.7 blocks per game.
His contract with Washington includes a second season, but his $13.3 million salary in 2025-26 was barely guaranteed and was abandoned by the Wizards last month.
Holmes joins Panathinaikos after not receiving a guaranteed NBA deal
After Holmes became an unrestricted free agent, Holmes gained interest from several Europa League clubs including Turkey’s Fenerbahce.
A report from Eurohoops.net’s Stavros Barbarousis over the weekend said he was considering Panathinaikos’ proposal while waiting for him to provide a guaranteed NBA contract.
Since Sherlock Holmes decided to sign with the Greek club, it is certain that he never got one.
Panathinaikos did not win the championship last season. During Greece’s regular season, the Greens scored the game 22-0 before losing to Olympiacos in the final.
In the Europa League, Panathinaikos finished third in the third place with a record of 22-12, the team was defeated by Fenerbahce in the semi-finals.
