Red Wings signs Patrick Kane for 1-year contract extension – Hockey writer – Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed forward Patrick Kane as a one-year contract worth $3 million. The contract also includes potential bonus payments of up to $4 million.
It’s been two years now, Kane signed a one-year extension with the Red Wings on June 30. Red Wings hope to have a better season than last year and finally played in the 2026 playoffs.
What did Kane bring
Kane has been back for another year with red wings, and it’s hard not to like what he brings to the table. Last season, he intervened, scoring 21 goals and 38 assists in 72 games, scoring 59 points. For Kane’s case, it’s very good production. If the 36-year-old can play at the same level, he can reach 70 points in 82 seasons, which is a huge value for his contract.

When he is on the ice, you can see the difference. He slowed down the game, found any open space he could, and played a role that few people in the league could achieve. He still has an elite vision, and the hockey on his stick is still dangerous. They didn’t call him Showtime for no reason. He has the ability to change the game with a highlight – Reel’s goal.
Kane has a Hall of Fame career and even though he can sign with any NHL team he wants, he decided to return to the Red Wings. He felt he could win with Detroit and, most importantly, one of his best friends in Alex Debrincat, which made him even more interested.
Although he is 36 years old, he is still a very talented player. He may not be a star of the team, but he can be a good mid-six forward who can score 65 to 70 points. Kane is smart enough to recognize his role on the team and knows the roster he can bring to the Red Wings. He has been one of the best players in the Chicago Blackhawks for most of his career, but one of the best players in the NHL. At this point in his career, he can use this experience and use it to benefit the Red Wings, especially the young players on the roster.
After signing Kane, the Red Wings now have $17 million in cap space and will use that hat space to improve their roster to drive the 2026 playoff location.
