Red Sox signs John Brebbia to sign minor league contract

The Red Sox has signed right-handed John Brebbia According to NESN’s Tom Caron, a minor league was reached. Brebbia has long been out of the open market, as he elected free agents just two days ago instead of taking direct missions from the Braves’ Triple A branch.

Signing is the home of Brebia, who was born in Boston and raised in a Massachusetts salon. Perhaps a return to familiar circumstances will help change Brebbia’s tough year, which combined the Tigers and Braves with the 7.71 ERA in 23 1/3.

After a year-on-year, 2.75mm free agent deal with Detroit, Brebia was designated as a mission, which was later released in June after meeting 19 more than 19 appearances in the Tigers uniform. Shortly thereafter, the Brave signed him into a minor deal and chose his contract at the end of August, but Brebbia scored 7.71 ERA in 4 2/3 innings and three games. Atlanta designated Brebia as an assignment earlier this week, (no surprise) he cleared the waiver, resulting in Brebia’s free agent selection.

As the Tigers are responsible for the remaining salary of Brebia, the Red Sox can only owe him the minimum wage of his minimum wage, and rescuers may spend on Boston’s active roster at any time. (Brebbia’s contract also includes the $4MM Club option for 2026, but that option will certainly be denied.) Because he joined the organization after August 31, Brebbia is not eligible for the playoffs.

For nearly nothing, the Red Sox will have little risk of using Brebbia as the depth arm for the rest of September. The home run rate has been high over the past two seasons, leading to many struggles for Brebbia, but his career with the Cardinals and Giants was an effective bullpen earlier. In 2025, there is no time spent seeing if Brebia can turn things around, but if nothing else, his time in the Sox organization can be auditioned for another minor league deal this winter.
