Red Sox part ways with assistant hitting coach

The Red Sox are parting ways with assistant hitting coach Ben Rosenthal, MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reports. This may be the only change to Alex Cora’s staff.

WEEI’s Rob Bradford reported over the weekend that bench coach Ramón Vázquez, hitting coach Peter Fatse, pitching coach Andrew Bailey, bullpen coach Chris Holt and base coaches José David Flores and Kyle Hudson will all return. Cotillo reported that the same goes for assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson, catching coach Parker Ginn and game planning/run prevention coach Jason Varitek — assuming none of those individuals leave for a better opportunity with another club.

Rosenthal joins the Red Sox in the 2021-22 offseason. Rosenthal is a former minor leaguer who coached in college and in the Astros’ farm system before joining the MLB staff in Boston. During his first three seasons, Rosenthal served as assistant hitting coach under Fatez along with Luis Ortiz. The Red Sox parted ways with Ortiz last season and added Lawson to the MLB staff. It stands to reason that they would now be looking for a new assistant hitting coach to share duties with Lawson.
