Rays hire Ozzie Timmons as assistant hitting coach

The Rays hired Ozzie Timmons as assistant hitting coach on Monday, according to a club announcement. He replaces Brady North, who left Kevin Cash’s staff at the end of the regular season.
Timmons returns to the MLB staff after serving as a special assistant through 2025. The 55-year-old served on Cash’s staff as first base coach/assistant hitting coach from 2018-21. The Brewers hired him as one of two pairing coaches for the 2021-22 offseason. Timmons stayed at the position for three years before parting ways with Milwaukee last winter.
Timmons, a native of the Tampa area, started playing for the Devil Rays in 2000 as part of a short MLB career that saw him play for four teams. Before first joining the MLB staff in 2018, he served as the team’s Triple-A hitting coach. He will work under head hitting coach Chad Mottola, who has been the club’s hitting coach for the past nine-plus seasons.
