Klugman shot became a wider standout when he won the prestigious Orange Bowl Junior Championship in Florida in 2023.
Past winners include French Open finalist Coco Gauff, as well as Grand Slam champions Chris Evert, Caroline Wozniacki and Bianca Andreescu.
Krugman also competed in two Grand Slam women’s doubles finals, losing the 2023 Wimbledon and this year’s Australian Open Trophy competition.
But Tagger, 17, beat her ranks far beyond her defeat in the 47th junior high school rankings in the world.
Krugman needed to show off his battle in the quarter-finals and semi-finals victory, coming back from a game before winning – but she couldn’t do that with Taggle.
Tagger is solid from the baseline and uses her elegant one-handed backhand (an increasingly rare sight) that has a great effect.
Klugman scored breakout points in Game 1 and 7 of the opening ceremony, but gave up on his serve in Game 4, which proved decisive.
The quality baseline exchange continued in the second set, but Tagger broke them again with her first chance.
From then on, Krugman’s confidence began to be consumed.
She trailed 4-0 after a double breakdown at the rest point, while Tagger confidently won and scored another five points.
