Manchester United’s Manchester United once said that Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona in order to play the best football.
Rashford made his official debut for Barca on Saturday, defeating Mallorca 3-0 in the second half after moving from Old Trafford last month.
England International lost favor with co-owner Ruben Amorim last season and rediscovered some form of the campaign on loan at Aston Villa, scoring four goals and providing five assists in all games.
Rashford seemed to be re-energized during his time at Villa Park and eager to play with Joy, which intensified his desire to join the Lariga title.
Rashford explained his decision to leave Manchester United, telling Sports: “I need to be happy to play my best football. For me personally, football is my life. You know? It’s my life because I’m still young.
“I actually don’t know anything. So the bond I have not only in my career, but also in sports in general is huge, and I don’t want it to go away. But yes, it’s always good to be happy when you play football. That’s why I started.
“You’re never sure, but I felt comfortable from the beginning [at Barca]. On the court, of course I will learn more about each game. But the starting point is very good.
“The more games I will learn, the more I will learn. Barcelona is the easiest place to enjoy and learn football.”
Rashford is learning the language to make his transition easier, revealing that his new teammate has decided on a curious nickname.
“When they are happy with each other, they call me “sweethearts.” “I don’t know what that means, but it’s fun when they talk to you like this
“They know I’m trying to learn Spanish. I think it’s important for me to learn as soon as possible. It’s exciting. You’ve been learning and it’s great.
“Catalans are having a hard time. I think, when I’m here, I’ll learn a little bit and hope it helps me learn more about Catalan culture, which I want to do, too.”
