Former PIF ATP rankings Roger Federer joins the International Tennis Hall of Fame 2026 candidate in the 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro and four-time Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova.

The Player category recognizes ATP and WTA players who have achieved outstanding record of outstanding competitive achievements at the highest international level:

Federer is one of only eight men in tennis history, achieving a professional grand slam in singles. He won his first major title at Wimbledon in 2003, becoming the first male player in tennis history to win 20 major singles titles. Federer then finished No. 1 in the world for 237 consecutive weeks, eventually lasting a total of 310 weeks in his career.

He finished his career with a 103 singles title, ranked second in the Open Age and was named the Stefan Edberg Sports Spirit Award 13 times. In addition, from 2003 to 2021, Federer has been a favorite among ATP fans for 19 consecutive years.

Federer represented Switzerland, leading his country to the Davis Cup in 2014 and won the championship with Stan Wawrinka at the 2008 Beijing Games. As part of the European team, Federer won three consecutive Laver Cup titles from 2017 to 2019.

Argentina’s Del Potro was the men’s singles champion in the 2009 U.S. Open, one of 22 titles he has won in his career. In 2008, though still a teenager, Del Potro won four ATP singles titles in a compilation of a 23-game winning streak.

In 2009, Del Potro reached his first Grand Slam final and won five sets against Federer at the U.S. Open. He was the youngest player in the top ten. In 2016, Del Potro led Argentina to its first Davis Cup title and won a silver medal in the Olympic singles competition.

All of this adds up

Kuznetsova is a four-time Grand Slam champion, with two in singles and doubles matches. She won singles titles at the 2004 U.S. Open and 2009 Roland Garros, and won the titles at the 2005 and 2012 Australian Open. In her 15-year career, she has won 18 WTA singles titles and 16 doubles titles and ranked second in singles, second in singles and third in doubles.
