Rangers vs. Red Wings game ends with bench clearing chaos – Hockey Writer – New York Rangers

It’s not every day in hockey that we clear out the entire bench. However, we saw it tonight when the New York Rangers took on the Detroit Red Wings.
When the final buzzer sounded after the Red Wings won the game 2-1 and both teams rushed toward their goalkeepers, some players had other ideas. They got into a huge mess as they crossed the Rangers blue line, and the game ended in chaos with both benches cleared.
MSG benches cleared
The reason the bench was cleared was because of a small play by Mason Appleton at the end of the game. As time expired, Appleton fired the puck into an empty net, and at first, it didn’t seem to cause trouble for the Rangers players. It wasn’t until Jonathan Quick came off the bench that everything changed.
Quick ran straight at Appleton, wearing a gauntlet and gloves and started throwing punches. After that, the scene was chaotic and players from both sides were involved. It quickly turned into a giant dog pile of nearly 50 players, the likes of which NHL fans almost never see. The interaction ended on a cooler note, but it was still fun to see both sides clear their benches and get involved so quickly in support of their teammates.
