Ben Johnson said Sunday’s Bears’ offense was more than expected

After the 2024 season, the Bears parted ways with head coach Matt Eberflus. To replace him, the Bears hired the coveted Ben Johnson. He was formerly an offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions Club.
Johnson was hired to help fix Chicago’s Caleb Williams and Chicago’s offense in the 2025 season and beyond. The Bears held practice on the Soldiers’ field on Sunday, August 3, and fans attended the meeting. After a poor performance, Ben Johnson called for an offense with a “slide” than the team hoped. Caleb Williams took a lot of pressure in his second year.

Prior to Sunday’s practice, Ben Johnson said he saw it as a preseason for the Bears. The team arrived at the hotel on Saturday night. That’s what they do for normal Said. Despite Johnson’s attempt to prepare for his team, Sunday’s offense was a lot left. Ben Johnson called for an offense to “slip than we hoped”.
Chicago’s defense dominated 11-11. In addition, sources said the offense had encountered problems with delayed fines or online pauses. This frustrated Ben Johnson, and the offense still has a lot of work to do. At one point, D’Andre Swift was settled in the end zone to ensure safety, which Johnson called was “unforgivable.”

One player criticized by Ben Johnson during the offseason was Caleb Williams. Sophomore QB is still learning Johnson’s offensive system. Johnson likes to make quick calls, and Williams sometimes struggles to move the drama to a mess. Caleb Williams has made nine interceptions in the last three training camps.
The bear still has time to figure out wrinkles on the offense. Caleb Williams has been learning his second offensive system in many seasons. It takes time to perfect it. Ben Johnson has had an experienced QB at Jared Goff over the past few seasons. Now, he has a 23-year-old QB still trying to find his way out in the NFL. With the right coach, Caleb Williams has the talent to be the best QB in Bears history. Can Ben Johnson unlock Williams’ true potential in the 2025 season?
