Quentin Grimes logo 1 year with $8.7 million qualified offer of 76 people

Agent David Bauman told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Wednesday that restricted free agent Quentin Grimes has signed a one-year, $8.7 million eligibility proposal to return to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Quentin Grimes will enter unlimited free agent next summer

According to Charania, Grimes will now have the ability to veto all deals in the 2025-26 season and will enter unrestricted free agents next summer, when “at least 10 teams plan to have legal salary cap space.”

Although Grimes’ camp said they hope to reach a contract in the $30 million range and then a contract between $20 and $25 million, the parties never found traction in a new deal.

Bauman said the Sixers’ first formal proposal for the offseason was made on September 24, with a four-year offer costing $39 million. Grimes then received a one-year, $8.8 million deal, which gave him $100,000 more than his eligibility offer.

However, according to Bowman, these frameworks were rejected.

Bowman later said Grimes’s team offered the Sixers a one-year contract, cut the no-trade clause and offered a two-year contract for $34 million, with an option.

Bowman pointed out that both were rejected by 76ers.

The Sixers’ recent injury history has affected Grimes’ decision

Charania reported last week that aside from Philadelphia’s recent injury history, the drafting of the 76ers VJ Edgecombe made them reluctant to offer long-term deals to Grimes.

“From the Sixers’ side, putting VJ Edgecombe in the high lottery obviously changed their backfield dynamics.”

“This year, there is a level of uncertainty about the health of major players like Joel Embiid and Paul George, and that makes the 76ers in terms of providing those high-value, high-year deals.”

Grimes is the last of the deal to restrict free agents.

Chicago’s Josh Giddey (four years, $100 million), Brooklyn’s Cam Thomas (one year, $6 million qualified offer) and Golden State’s Jonathan Kuminga (two years, $48.5 million) signed in September.

Grimes’ career highest average

Grimes is arguably the best season of his NBA career.

Last season, Grimes averaged a career-high 14.6 points in 75 games between the Dallas Mavericks and the Sixers, shooting 46.7% from the field and 38.5% from three-point shooting percentage.

After the Mavericks traded him to Philadelphia, the former first-round game averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game, while the floor shot 46.9% from the field and was more than 37.3% from the arc.

He has five 30-point games and two 40-point games with the Sixers.

According to basketball reference, Grimes joined Tyrese Maxey, Allen Iverson and Hal Greer to become the only guard in the 76ers history with an average of 28.5 points in 10 games.

Philadelphia opened on Oct. 22 on the road against the Boston Celtics.
