Jannik Sinner losses have been rare in recent years. That’s why when the Italians do perform poorly, it catches the attention of many.
Last year’s Miami champion Jakub Mensik beat PIF ATP No. 2 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open on Thursday. This comes after losing to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open semi-finals.
A year and a half has passed since Sinner lost two games in a row before the finals. The last time this happened was at the 2024 Wimbledon and Montreal ATP Masters 1000 events (both quarterfinals).
According to the Infosys ATP Win-Loss Index, Sinner has a record of 138-14 since the start of the 2024 season, during which time his win percentage has reached an astonishing 90.8. For context, Novak Djokovic holds the record for the best win rate at the tour level at 83.3%.
Since losing in the quarterfinals in Montreal in 2024, Sinner has played 19 games and reached the finals in 15 of them, lifting 10 trophies. He lost five times in the championship to Carlos Alcaraz.
So while Sinner has now lost back-to-back games leading up to the finals, it speaks to his consistency in recent years. Mensik will face Arthur Fels on Friday for a place in the Doha final.
