Predators acquire Erik Haula from Jeremy Hanzel’s Devil, Draft – Hockey Writer – NHL News

The New Jersey Devils announced that the team acquired Nashville’s fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL draft and defensive player Jeremy Hanzel in exchange for forward Erik Haula.

Howra was originally acquired from the Boston Bruins on July 13, 2022 in exchange for Pavel Zacha. Over the past three seasons, he has scored 41 goals and 56 assists in 227 games, scoring 97 points (PIMS). He added 7 points (4G-3A) and 17 points in 17 Stanley Cup playoff games against New Jersey in 2023 and 2025. Haula has one year left for the remaining three-year contract, with an average annual interest rate of $3.15 million.

The 7th round pick in the Minnesota wilderness (No. 182) at the 2009 NHL Draft had 337 points (153 goals, 184 assists) in 759 games, in the wild, the Las Vegas Golden Knights, the Carolina Hurricanes, the Florida Panthers, the Predators, the Predators, the Bears and the Devils. He scored 37 points (16 goals and 21 assists) in 78 playoff games and helped the Golden Knights reach the inaugural Stanley Cup final, five games in the Washington Capitals.

Hanzel, 22, spent last season with Nashville’s minor league members, Admiral Milwaukee (American Hockey League) and Gwennett Gladiator (ECHL). In four games, he scored two minutes of free throw time, three goals and 19 assists, scoring 22 points and 28 minutes of free throw minutes. After his junior year career, he played four regular season games (0G-2A, 2 PIMs) and one Calder Cup playoffs (PIM).

Hanzel was acquired by Nashville from the Colorado Avalanche on March 7, 2024, in exchange for forwards Yakov Trenin and Defenseman Graham Sward. Born in Coquitlam, British Columbia, he was a native of Burnaby and was originally Colorado’s first draft in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Draft.
