Pittsburgh Steelers is trading with Dolphins to get full chips CB Jalen Ramsey
In 2024, the Steelers completed their 10-7 season. However, they lost five games in a row, including a 28-14 loss to the Ravens in the wildcard game.
During the offseason, the Steelers made several trades to try to upgrade the roster. They added QB Aaron Rodgers and WR DK Metcalf. On Monday morning, league insiders announced that Pittsburgh is in a deal with Miami to acquire three-time all-professional Jalen Ramsey. The 30-year-old has played with the Dolphins for two seasons. As part of the deal, the Steelers are sending safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Dolphins in a rare NFL player trade. Along with Ramsey, the Steelers are acquiring Te Jonu Smith.

Back on April 15, Dolphin General Manager Chris Grier made public comments on the idea of entertaining Jalen Ramsey. After in-depth discussion, Miami finally decided to trade veteran CB. As part of the deal, Ramsey will receive a $1.5 million salary increase, bringing his 2025 total to $26.6 million. Chris Grier said this when talking about the decision to trade Jaylen Ramsey.
“In fact, after weeks of internal discussions with Jalen and his representatives, we think this might be in the best interest for all parties to move forward,” – Chris Grier
GM in Miami pointed out that these decisions were not made easily. He also wanted to make it clear that Jalen Ramsey didn’t ask for a deal. This is the front desk move. The Steelers are sending rear-round picks and Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Dolphins as part of the deal to acquire Ramsay. However, Pittsburgh also acquired Te Jonu Smith from Miami. Fitzpatrick is the Dolphins’ first-round draft pick. They initially traded him to the Steelers early in the 2019 season.
Jalen Ramsey joins Pittsburgh’s CB room, which has other upgrades during the offseason. Free agent Darius Slay signed a year-on-year, $10 million deal with the Steelers. The team also owns Joey Porter Jr., who started 16 of 17 games in Pittsburgh in 2024. Ramsey, 30, is likely to be another starter with Porter Jr. Darius Slay, can play nickel and take care of the slots. He did this while in Philadelphia.
