Pistons’ Duncan Robinson expected to start 2025-26 season for injured Jaden Ivey

Cade Cunningham and the Pistons are heading into the first game of the 2025-26 season. They will face the Bulls in Chicago on Tuesday. Tip time is 8:00 PM ET.
Detroit will be without starting SG Jaden Ivey for at least the first four weeks. He underwent minor surgery on his knee and will make his season debut at a later date. To replace Ivey, the Pistons are expected to start a first-year player on the team. Duncan Robinson will start at SG when the Pistons take on the Bulls on Tuesday night.

In the 2025 offseason, the Pistons completed a sign-and-trade with the Heat and acquired veteran SG Duncan Robinson. As part of the deal, Robinson signed a three-year deal worth $48 million. His contract with Detroit runs through the 2027-28 season. The 31-year-old spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Heat. Robinson played in 423 games for Miami, starting 283 games. In seven years with the Heat, Robinson averaged 11.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.
Duncan Robinson is famous for his long-range shooting skills. For his career, the former undrafted pro has shot .397 percent from beyond the arc. Elite three-point shooting is Duncan Robinson’s calling card. After seven seasons with the Heat, Robinson was traded to the Pistons this offseason. In that deal, he received a three-year, $48 million contract from Detroit.

The Pistons will be without starting shooting guard Jaden Ivey when the 2025-26 season begins. He underwent minor surgery on his knee and will miss at least the first four weeks. That’s not ideal for a Pistons team looking to get off to a strong start. Detroit is expected to start veteran Duncan Robinson while Ivey is out. In the 2024-25 season, he played 74 games and started 37 times for the Heat. Robinson averaged 11.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
Duncan Robinson should fit in nicely as the Pistons’ starter as Jaden Ivey returns from his knee injury. Cade Cunningham averages nearly 20+ points and 10+ assists per game. He can create his own shots and create opportunities for his teammates. Duncan Robinson could stretch the floor for Detroit and be a legitimate threat deep. In addition, Azul Thompson also has flaws in his shooting. He’s another player who can create easy offensive opportunities for Duncan Robinson. Detroit will face the Bulls on Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. ET.
