Ping PLD Milled AS Series Brings Back Long Putter, 2 More Styles

For the first time since the 2016 USGA anchor ban, Ping is offering long putter models in retail stores.
Ping’s New PLD Milled AS The Oslo L is part of the new PLD Milled AS (Alternative Style), which adds three putters to Ping’s PLD range, each suited to a unique putting style.
Read on to learn more about all three PLD Milled AS Series putters, who each is designed for, and my thoughts on the release.
What is Ping PLD Milled AS Series?
The new Ping PLD Milled AS Series consists of three putters, each featuring a non-traditional putter style based on Ping’s Oslo shape, one of the highest MOI and most forgiving shapes they’ve ever made.
The Oslo L is a 47-inch long or “broom” style putter popularized in recent years by Adam Scott and Lucas Glover. It’s the first long putter Ping has introduced since the anchor ban in 2016, when players were accustomed to a putter style that used the sternum as the fulcrum for impact. Modern use of these putters involves players hovering the putter just below their chest and using their top hand to guide the putter.
The other two models are the Oslo CB (a balanced model with dual bent axles) and the Oslo C (a zero-offset center-axis, standard-length putter). It’s worth noting that the new Oslo C isn’t a low-torque or starting model like the Ally Blue SE putter Ping released in August.

Who is each model suitable for?
While all three models are classified according to Ping’s “straight arc” shot type, each model will cater to a specific alternative putting style.
The Oslo C is designed for players who prefer the look of zero offset and a bottom bracket to aid alignment. Meanwhile, the Oslo CB Balance option will suit players who hit the ball more cautiously. Ping also said that for players who have too much shaft lean at impact, a counterbalance may be a good option to help them drive on the line.
Ultimately, the Oslo L is for players who are willing to try something different and gain stability and control from their long putting style.
my thoughts
It’s a little crazy to me to find out that Ping isn’t currently entering the long putter market, but the company does have a history of sometimes taking its time on equipment trends, like adjustable metal woods, carbon fiber usage, and low-torque putters.
Long putters haven’t generated the same interest as low-torque putters over the past two to three years, but they’ve certainly gained the largest following in the post-anchor ban era.
Now they have a new option to cater to this segment of the market, while adding new shapes to their balance and milling options. Previously, these two categories were only catered for by the Scottsdale range, but now they are available in the more premium PLD Milled range.
Giving players more options to suit different preferences is always welcome, and Ping appears to be casting the net wider to attract more golfers.

PING 2025 PLD Milled Oslo AS Balanced Putter
The Oslo CB combines a longer shaft and grip with the highly forgiving Oslo head design. The CB comes with a mid-length shaft and a longer grip that allows for a downward grip if desired. For golfers with too much shaft lean or more “grip drag” at impact, balancing can help square the clubface and start the putt on line. Technology: Fully milled 303 stainless steel with straight arc shallow milling for a slightly firmer feel Rear cavities on all 3 models feature a matte black finish with long alignment lines
