Phoenix Suns hire Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott as new head coach

Phoenix’s Suns are hiring Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott as the franchise’s new head coach. ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported.

This completed an extensive coaching search that included four rounds of interviews and at least 15 candidates. Johnnie Bryant is also a Cavaliers assistant, another finalist for the position. The newly vacant New York Knicks head coaching position may take into account some speculation from Bryant.

At the end of the regular season, Phoenix broke up with Mike Budenholzer. The Suns were disappointingly missing after entering the championship wish of the season.

Ott has been in an assistant role since 2012 and has been praised for his creativity in offense and defense. He is also considered to be thriving in player development and communication.

He started with the Atlanta Hawks and then joined the Brooklyn Nets in the 2016-17 season. The Los Angeles Lakers were followed by two years in 2022-24, and then joined the Cavaliers. Ott was one of Kenny Atkinson’s first staff when he was in the position of head coach of the Cavaliers.

Ott is believed to play a key role in helping the Cavaliers get a 64-18 record and Atkinson’s coach of the year.

Sun superstar Devin Booker participated in the recruitment process in the final stages. People also think he regards OTT as the best choice.

The Sun will enter a new era of Ultra

Through the recruitment process of the new head coach, Phoenix can now turn its attention to Kevin Durant’s situation.

About four to six teams are expected to participate in the discussion to win 15 All-Stars. Both the Houston Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs have been mentioned as likely suitors, although it seems to depend on the availability of Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Both the Miami Heat and the Minnesota Timberwolves are reportedly interested in the trade deadline.
