PGA Tour champion quells LIV rumors with two words

With the professional golf offseason in full swing and the end of the year approaching, LIV golf rumors are intensifying. Sometimes, reports incorrectly identify PGA Tour players who will switch to LIV Golf in 2026.

On Wednesday, one such report circulated that a two-time PGA Tour winner from South Korea was preparing to head to London International Airport. But on Wednesday night, the player, Sungjae Im, took to social media to put those rumors to rest with two simple words.

Here’s what you need to know.

Sungjae Im’s resume makes him attractive to PGA Tour, LIV

After starting his career on the Japan Golf Tour, Lin advanced to the majors in 2018 by winning the Korn Ferry Tour (then known as the Web.com Tour) Player of the Year.

He wasted no time making an impact. I quickly earned Rookie of the Year honors in 2018-19, followed by victories at the 2020 Honda Classic and 2021 Shriners Children’s Open.

At just 27 years old, I made 20 cuts out of 28 events during the 2025 PGA Tour season, finishing in the top 25 nine times and in the top 10 three times, including a tie for fifth at the 2025 Masters. At season’s end, he ranked 27th in the FedExCup standings.

In addition to the wins, Im has accumulated 48 top-10s and 22 top-fives in 209 career starts, earning $34,982,404 for his troubles on the course.

He’s a significant threat, even if he doesn’t claim it yet. Lin has finished in the top 8 three times in six Masters events, including a tie for second in 2020. He tied for 7th again at the 2024 Open.

With a pedigree like that, Lin would obviously be a huge bonus to LIV Golf, and an equally huge loss to the PGA Tour if he switched tours. As LIV Golf is keen to expand its profile globally, the fact that Im hails from golf-loving South Korea only makes him more attractive.

But thanks to me, we now know he’s not going anywhere.

Sungjae Im calls LIV rumors “fake news”

On Wednesday, reports cited anonymous sources that Lim was preparing to give up the PGA Tour in favor of LIV Golf along with another Korean PGA Tour pro.

Other journalists, citing their own sources, denied that reports that Im had moved LIV were true.

This resulted in me taking the matter into my own hands.

Im posted a screenshot of the original report on his Instagram account late Wednesday. But he solved the problem by adding two words and an emoji to the screenshot.

“Fake news,” I wrote, along with a “thumbs down” emoji.

With those two words, the PGA Tour star confirmed that, contrary to reports, he would not be changing tours and would continue to ply his trade on the PGA Tour.

The incident is reminiscent of a similar situation encountered by an Australian PGA Tour player earlier this year.

In November, there were rumors that 27-year-old PGA Tour champion Min Woo Lee was considering a move to LIV Golf.

But during the interview Australian Associated PressLee ended all speculation by confirming that he will stay on the PGA Tour.

“There are a lot of rumors. I won’t go [to LIV Golf] I’m just going to play on the PGA Tour,” Lee told reporters American AP Association. “So, I’m happy with where I am right now and yeah, I’m looking forward to next year.”
