PGA Championship Round 1, Round 2

Rory McIlroy returns to Quail Hollow to chase a second Grand Slam and a historic Grand Slam at the 2025 PGA Championship.

Sometimes fate wears green clothes, and the whisper of history is not long after. Rory McIlroy is just weeks away from Augusta's green jacket and is now on the brink of possibility. With the first part of the calendar grand slam, the conversation has shifted from “if” to “possible”.

Could it be a year? The venue is consistent, the table is undeniable, and the PGA Championship (with his cherished Quail Hollow move) is not like another site, but more like a homecoming. A place that echoes victory brings greater hope for people.

Where to start the journey

Charlotte not only hosts McIlroy this week, but also welcomes him back. Quail Hollow is a four-career win location, including his debut game on the 2010 PGA Tour, and few people like to be familiar with it on large venues. It's not just McIlroy's course. This is his canvas.

Jordan Spieth, known as the “Rory McIlroy Country Club”, has the length and accuracy of Quail Hollow rewards – characterized by defining McIlroy as the best. Its last three holes, known as the “Green Mile”, tested the players as much courage as their swings. But for McIlroy, it wasn't a common judgment. This is where his game breathes.

He comes with a dream of motivation, confidence and romanticism, who now whisper about history. The second major will make the Grand Slam live, a feat that the tiger has never seen before. But this is not the point, it hasn't. For Rory, the task is singular: win here. Win again. Let the next chapter be written.

Three Titans, one fairway

There will be more tees and scorecards on Thursday morning-it will bring the theater. Perhaps the most anticipated pairing of the year, the world's top three players walked side by side. Scottie Scheffler. Rory McIlroy. Xander Schauffele.

Byron Nelson's ruler Scheffler is chasing his first major, surpassing Augusta's door. Defending champion Schauffele tried to validate last year's breakthrough with another clutch performance. Then there is McIlroy, now bringing the weight and miracle of a possible Grand Slam run.

The group not only provides talent. It provides tension. Conflict of intentions, legacy of form. The bet is huge, but the road is personal. Everyone's eyes are Wanamaker trophy, with different hunger.

For McIlroy, however, quail hollows are more than just trophys. This is time, redemption and the rarest opportunity. This way can only be open if you have conquered Augusta and look forward to something more timeless.
