Paris Masters 2025: Cameron Norrie sets up second round match with Carlos Alcaraz

Britain’s Cameron Norrie will face world number one Carlos Alcaraz in the second round of the Paris Masters after beating Sebastian Baez in straight sets.

The world No. 31 defeated Argentinian Baez, 12 places behind him, 6-3 6-4 in a six-break match.

Norrie won the opening three games before his serve was broken at 15 and Baez chased the score to 3-3.

However, the 30-year-old rallied to win the next three games and earn the second set point.

Norrie again threatened to blow away a 3-0 lead in the second set, saving a break point in the sixth game and then four more in the tenth before ending the match at the first opportunity.

“My serve was very tight in this match. I said I was going to pretend it was 0-30, then 0-30 and 0-40,” Noori told Sky Sports.

“It was about getting the job done and it was great to face the adversity. It wasn’t a typical game. He played well.”

Norrie will face Alcaraz, who bowed out in the third round last year, on Tuesday, with the Spaniard playing his first tour match since defeating Taylor Fritz in the Japan Open final in late September.

Alcaraz has won five of seven matches, most recently defeating Norrie in straight sets in this year’s Wimbledon quarterfinals.

Norrie’s compatriot Jacob Fearnley will face 12th seed Andrei Rublev in the first round later on Monday.
