Padres Note: Crohnworth, Stop, King, Suarez

Priest activated Jake Cronenworth From yesterday's 10-day injury roster, the infielder took two walks and two scores to a third in a 13-9 win over the Rockies on Friday. Cronenworth eventually went missing for a month almost completely due to a fracture in his right rib, suffering after being hit by the court.
Since the bones aren't completely cured, Cronenworth told reporters (including Kevin Acee of San Diego Union-Tribune) that he will temporarily wear a padded sweatshirt and add another layer of padding when he's on the plate. Despite the precautions, Cronenworth said he felt good and might be able to return from the IL earlier, the team wanted to wait until the bones healed until the chances of re-imposing were less likely.
The injury shortened Cronenworth's favorite start, who had a .263/.429/.474 slash in the first 49 cricket games of the 2025 season. Some return is inevitable, but Padres certainly hopes he will continue to offer at least some level of above-average production as Cronenworth beat 0.236/.318/.385 in 2023-24 1178 PA.
As San Diego's roster gets healthier, Dylan stops Any kind of injury also seems to be avoiding after his last game of leaving the forearm cramps. While any kind of forearm issues have attracted attention, Stop got 90-foot capture game on Friday (part of his usual startup process), but no issues, so it seems like the right-hander should do his next outing. Since Padres didn’t play last Thursday, the stop could even take an extra day off to ensure he was ready for his next scheduled start against the Angels on Wednesday.
Scease isn't fully on track this season yet, as Righty released a 4.91 ERA in eight games and 40 1/3 innings. There hasn't been much change in Scease's peripherals compared to 2024, so his swelling era may just be a bad hit to the luck of hits (.333 BABIP). The outstanding figure is probably that Scease’s iconic slider is a great court “only” in 2025, not in the most devastating Grand Slams of the 2022 and 2024 seasons.
Returning to the highest form is especially important for a stop this season, as if he posts a strong campaign, he may be the top free agent for this winter. Due to the suspension of first release with fellow countrymen Michael King Both pitchers were free agents throughout the offseason and were mentioned extensively in the depths of spring training. It turns out that San Diego eventually retained two starters, and New York Post's Jon Heyman wrote: “Padres wants to keep one of them for the long term.”
With both the ceasefire and the King’s pace at a large salary, San Diego already has a lot of long-term contracts. The logic behind trade speculation is that Padres may raise some salary and meet other needs by trading them for any of which of the two pitchers they signed, but not only does the male cuck keep the focus of stop and Kings, but also involves other high-priced players, but most of the rumored high-priced players are in the trade market.
Robert Suarez Heyman wrote that he was reportedly one of those players who were interested in trade, but “no team made serious plays for his service.” Last season, the flame-throwing Suarez made 36 saves in 65 innings with a 2.77 ERA and above-average walking rate. However, some of his other metrics are more moderate, Suarez's age (he was 34 in March), and his contractual status may be a barrier to reaching an agreement.
Suarez owes the remaining 10mm of his salary this season, and owes 8mm in each of the 2026 and 2027 seasons. However, the last two seasons are actually the player’s choice, and at the end of the season, Suarez can trigger both options at the same time or opt out of free agent altogether. Given this uncertain contractual identity, if Suarez opt out, the team may not want to give up too much for one year of control, or some other teams may be wary of the 34-year-old rescuer’s price of 26mm.
The lack of attractive offers may have decided that Suarez is very easy for the Padres, but the club is certainly happy anyway, and the closer and closer are still in the roster. Suarez has a great performance in 17 2/3 innings of 0.51 ERA, the league's highest 15 saves, and the strikeout rate has increased significantly by 29.5%. .154 Babip will certainly promote Suarez's success, but even Suarez's 2.87 Siera can better reflect his actual performance, it still goes beyond solid attitude.
