Overtime hero Cuylle leads Rangers to 3-2 win over Kraken – The Hockey Writers – Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken host the New York Rangers on Saturday, November 1st in their first game of the season. The Kraken have been looking for a win since losing to the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 28. Instead, Wanderers defeated Kraken 3-2 in overtime to make it three consecutive wins. It was the final game of their road trip and they returned to Madison Square Garden in high spirits.

Midway through the first quarter, the Rangers took the lead. Jonny Brozinski took a shot, but Joey Daccord saved it. Brozinski picked up the rebound and slid the ball through the back of the net. He passed it to Adam Fox on the blue line. Fox passed it to Vladislav Gavrikov. He shot and the ball bounced off Daccord’s glove, giving the Rangers their first goal.

The Rangers scored a minute later when Urho Vaakanainen hooked Berkly Catton. With a minute left in the game, Kraken started to make a difference. Ellie Tolvanen and Vince Dunn passed the ball back and forth until Dunn passed the ball to Chandler Stephenson. He skated into the faceoff spot and fired a shot, scoring the Kraken’s first goal of the night on the power play.

59 seconds later, Alexis Lafrenier stole the puck from the Kraken in the neutral zone. He passed to Will Culler, who shot, but Daccord saved it. Noah Laba skates to the net with great speed. He grabbed the rebound to give the Rangers the lead again.

With about seven minutes left in the game, Jaden Schwartz passed the puck to Brandon Montour. He slapped the ball in the face to tie the game for Seattle.

At 11 minutes and 47 seconds, Culler thought he scored to give New York the lead, but the goal was called back and the score was still tied.

In the third quarter, the Rangers led Kraken 9-4 but did not score. At the end of the regular season, both teams scored two goals each, and the game entered overtime to determine the winner.

During a substitution with two minutes left in overtime, JT Miller passed the puck to Culler. His shot hit the crossbar and into the net, winning the game for Rangers.

Next step

The Kraken will stay at home on Monday, November 3rd to face the Chicago Blackhawks. The Rangers return to Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, November 4 to take on the Carolina Hurricanes.
