Opener: Dodgers, free agency, options

As the offseason begins, here are three things we’ll be focusing on throughout the day today:

1. The Dodgers celebrate the championship:

The Dodgers were victorious in the World Series, winning back-to-back elimination games in Toronto to capture the Commissioner’s Trophy. Today, they will celebrate their victory with the city of Los Angeles. The city’s festivities are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. local time, with a parade scheduled to begin on Temple Street and Broadway. The parade is scheduled to travel west on Temple Street, south on Grand Avenue, west on Seventh Street and north on Figueroa Street before ending on Fifth Street. Meanwhile, there will be a ticketed celebration at Dodger Stadium, with the parade showing on the stadium’s video board. Stadium festivities are scheduled to begin at 12:15 pm local time, although stadium entry will begin as early as 9 am.

2. Free agents enter the market:

Yesterday, as the offseason began, more than 100 players officially entered the free agent market. While these players are technically free agents, don’t expect top free agents Kyle Tucker Will sign with a new team soon. He and the rest of this year’s free agent class actually have until Nov. 6 to negotiate with all 30 clubs. Until then, negotiations are limited to clubs with each player completing the 2025 season. Still, a lack of competition doesn’t mean a deal can’t be struck. Royals and right-handers Michael Wacha Just last year, a new contract was signed within this limited negotiating window. As far as possible free agency is concerned this year, we need to look no further than the stars Edwin DiazHe re-signed with the Mets on his current contract before starting negotiations with other clubs in the 2022-23 offseason. Will any team reach a deal to keep their player before he hits free agency?

3. Option decision input:

November 6 is also the date when players and clubs need to make a decision on outstanding contract options. Two such decisions have already been taken. Michael King Declined his co-option with the Padres, while the Royals declined a co-option with the Padres Michael Lorenson. Mutual options are rarely exercised, so these and other mutual options (such as the Red Sox right-hander’s option) Lucas Giolito) is an easily rejected bet. Other no-brainers include Brewers club options Freddie Peraltawill definitely be exercised, and Pete AlonsoOpting out of the Mets, he has said he plans to decline. However, not every option decision will be easy, and there is at least some intrigue surrounding a player like the Red Sox shortstop Trevor Storey and Cubs lefty Shota Imaga.
