Suns player Dillon Brooks fined $25,000 for making obscene gesture toward Pacers

Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks was fined $25,000 for making an obscene gesture in the second quarter of Thursday night’s 133-98 victory over the Indiana Pacers at Mortgage Game Center.

Brooks made the gesture after fouling Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard under the basket with 54.4 seconds left in the first half. After Brooks fell to the ground, he pushed up with his hands.

The former second-round pick then made a free throw to give the Suns a 67-52 lead. He scored 24 points in the first half and a season-high 32 points in the game.

“I would say it was probably $25,000,” Brooks said at the postgame press conference. “But I was excited, playing well, and sometimes my emotions got the best of me, but I stuck with it and kept going.”

James Jones, NBA executive vice president and director of basketball operations, announced the news on Friday.

Jones served as interim general manager from the 2018-19 season and has served as the Suns’ general manager until the end of the 2024-25 season. He succeeds Joe Dumars, who joined the New Orleans Pelicans in April as the team’s executive vice president of basketball operations.

Suns acquire Brooks from Rockets

Brooks has played seven games for the Suns this season (all starts), averaging 29.1 minutes per game and scoring a career-high 20.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.9 steals.

Brooks shot 43.6% from the field, 32.7% from beyond the arc, and a career-high 93.3% from the free throw line. His player efficiency rating (17) and true shooting percentage (57.6 percent) were also career hallmarks.

The Suns acquired Brooks from the Houston Rockets over the summer as part of the Kevin Durant trade, a historic seven-team trade that sent Jalen Green, Brooks, No. 10 pick Ka’aman Maruac and second-round picks Raheel Fleming and Kobe Breea to Phoenix.

Phoenix hosts the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday.
