The 2008 third-round pick has scored 276 goals and 559 points during his milestone campaign. He scored 19 goals and 38 points with the Oilers. He has been a top-six forward for most of his career, but played a reduced role in Edmonton, primarily as a third-line center. In his 1,000th game, he was center on the fourth line with Isaac Howard and David Tomasek. However, he moved into the starting lineup and started alongside Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Oilers arrive at rink in style
The Oilers surprised Enrique by wearing custom shirts in honor of their teammate. “RICO” is written on the front of the jersey in a special racing font, a nod to his love of NASCAR and motorsports. The back of the jersey features milestones he has achieved throughout his career, including his draft location and important dates such as his first NHL goal.
The Oilers also took to the ice for pregame warmups, all wearing Enrique’s name and number on their jerseys. These were all cool moves by the organization that made for a memorable night for the veteran forward.
