Oiler 2024-25 Report Card: Ryan Nugent Hopkins – Hockey Writer – Edmonton Oiler
With offseason results, so are the Edmonton Oilers players. The last transcript is the Vasily Podkolzin rating, followed by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The 32-year-old recorded 20 goals and 49 points in 78 games last season, with a rating of 4. He finished fourth on the team with a goal, behind only Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman and Connor McDavid.
He is a versatile player and plays in all situations. The veteran’s forward is located in the highest Power League unit and is a major penalty kicker. British Columbia’s Burnaby native scored 134:52 in free throw kills and first scored 243:03 in the forwards. Of his 49 points, only 21 points were 5-on-5, with 20 points. He wasn’t as productive as we expected on 5, especially for most of the season, he played in No. 97.

His versatility allows him to line up and down. He can be left-wing with McDavid, or a third-line center and provide offensive improvements to around sixths of the baseline while providing incredible central depth for McDavid, Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins. The oiler needs more production, especially if he continues to get top minutes with McDavid and is in the highest Power League unit.
Nugent-Hopkins has performed much better in the playoffs. In 22 games, he recorded 20 points with four goals and 20 points, an average of 19:35 per game. His only two points in the Stanley Cup final were overtime wins with a 5-4 comeback in Game 4, where he recorded a goal and assist. However, he performed well in the Western Conference Finals, recording two goals and nine points in those five games, including four consecutive multi-point games. He also won seven straight wins in the first two rounds, with two multiple matches in that time.
He is excellent when Nugent-Hopkins is hot, but when he doesn’t, he is not productive. Despite his 20 points in 22 games, he did not record 10 points, including four straight wins, with three of four appearing in the Stanley Cup finals. He is still a big deal in the playoffs and has great moments. so, He got one Because of his playoff performance, but if his offense is more consistent, then this result will be higher. He is still almost one of every game and deserves recognition.
Overall, Nugent-Hopkins performed up and down movements. He remained relatively healthy, missing only four games between the regular season and the playoffs. However, the Oilers captain confirmed Nugent-Hopkins broke his hand during a stretch, which explained his struggle in the Stanley Cup final. He figured it out and there was still a solid season and we were used to his meeting. so, He deserves what he deserves In his game this season. He is good, but not very good, and still has more to pay for. He needs to get better in 2025-26.
