Craig Patton: “Well, we talked about it and, you know, one of the benchmarks right now is what they just paid Jackson Lacombe. So your own contract now becomes your best comparable going forward. Well, I’m going to ask you the elephant in the room. So who’s waiting for who? Is Carlson waiting for Bedard? Is Bedard waiting for Carlson?”
NHL Rumors: Chicago Blackhawks and Connor Bedard
Dave Pannotta: “Yeah, well said. I don’t think, I think these talks are going on, really trying to hammer something out between Chicago and Bedard. I don’t think it’s a question of who’s going to be No. 1 and No. 2. I think both of their teams, Chicago and Anaheim, understand the special players that they have and how much those guys are going to really lead their clubs moving forward.
So, if so, is it comparable to the final number? Obviously, we’ll see where all the factors lie. But I don’t think that’s the case for everyone waiting to be UFA or eligible to be UFA next summer. We’re waiting for (Kirill) Kaprizov to really get going. I don’t think this is a problem. I don’t think it affects these people that much.
Because both lead the league in scoring, they both mean a lot to their respective teams. They are coming out of the ELC, they are going to be in this league for a long time and will probably be stars for a long time. I think both are going to get sizable contracts and both are pretty worth it. And their team seems more than happy to reveal it. “
