NHL Rumors: Tristan Jarry available, but Edmonton Oilers may have injury issues

The Edmonton Oilers would be concerned about the injury history of Tristan Jarry or any other goalie
Sportsnet 590 Fan: Elliot Friedman, when asked if Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry would suit up for the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers said they wanted someone with no health issues. Is it time for the Oilers to move on from Skinner?

Matt Marchese: “Edmonton, we know they’re at least monitoring the goaltender market. Where does Tristan Jarry fit in? Because I know money has to come into play, but Tristan Jarry has really bounced back. It’s been a really rough few years, especially last year. But he’s been a little bit better in some areas, and this year, when you look at the numbers, you see, 253, 2.53 goals against, .914 save percentage. Can the Penguins go eight games?”
Friedman: “Well, I think, I think he can play. I don’t think there’s any question about that. I mean, Pittsburgh has four goaltenders now, right? They got him, they got (Artus) Silov, they got two young guys, (Sergei) Murashov and (Joel) Blomqvist, and I think they’re both going to play. So Murashov, Blomqvist both played. He was injured earlier this year, Murashov played this year, and you can see what he’s capable of.”
NHL Rumors: Canucks, Flames, Oilers, Blues, Blackhawks, Mammoths and Predators
I mean, first of all, you know, Pittsburgh is in the running. Their performance this year has been a bit of a surprise. So it always makes me wonder, like, you know, how did they feel about tampering with the way it started?
But in theory, yes, I think Jarry can. Now that I think about it, I wrote about it at length yesterday with the Oilers and what I think they have to consider. Another thing I forgot to mention is that Edmonton said they wanted someone healthy. Because the worst thing they can do is, you can make this move and you trade a guy who can’t play. That’s why they’re nervous about (John) Gibson and I know they’re nervous about Jarry because of that.
In terms of pure ability, I think Jarry has a point, but I know what scares the Oilers is his tendency to get injured. Because, like Skinner, at least he was available. As I wrote last night, I feel very strongly that I just think the Oilers have to think here about is it time? It’s time for him, it’s time for them, and everyone, including the team and the player Skinner, will be better off because of moves like yours. You’ve now reached the point where you have to consider this.
But I understand the Oilers’ concern is, okay, let’s say we trade a guy with an injury history and then it pops up on us. So where are we? I understand the concern, and as much as I do, I do think the circumstances this year will force the Oilers to make potentially uncomfortable decisions. But I understand the concern for people who have suffered serious injuries.
NHL Rumors: Carolina Hurricanes and Andrei Svechnikov speculation
I can’t tell you how many people in this league who run teams would still say, you know, when you talk about the most important thing about a player, a lot of them will talk about competitiveness and will and drive, but a lot of them will say availability. And, you know, in a season like this, you can’t control it because it’s so compressed. But just like with injuries, you worry about what they’re going to do, your roster, your salary cap, your decisions, I think that’s the biggest call the Oilers have for Jarry.
