Sam Kerr reached another milestone in her outstanding career by obtaining her signature boots.
Chelsea and Australia Striker teamed up with Nike to launch her first player version of Mercurial Superfly, a design that honors her country, her career, and her biggest sports idol.
The boots reach the light base and nodded to the beaches of Australia, with turquoise, pink and orange passing through them to mirror the ocean, sunset and rocky landscape.
“The color of the boots is what I thought of when I thought about home: the ocean and sunset in Perth,” Kerr explained. “It reminds me where I came from.”
Personal styles are spread throughout the design, including her trademark spell “consistent” engraved on the upper with a tattoo-like script, and subtle references to her play style (“Forever Forward”) and Western Australian roots (“Perth Swag”).
Perhaps the most eye-catching detail is the bold stripes, which cut the toes of the boots, inspired by Cathy Freeman’s unforgettable gold medal run at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. At the top of the stripes, a small tribute to Freeman’s victory – a tribute to an athlete, Kerr, a long victory by her heroes.
Her signature is trampled on the heels to make the design comprehensive and make each pair feel as if they were signed in person.
Nike will also launch a wider collection of items that can be used with boots.
