NHL Rumors: Hutson contract delay, Oiler PTO, Roslovic update – Hockey Writer – NHL Rumors

In today’s NHL rumors, Lane Hutson and Montreal Canadaens are talking about contract extensions, but one scribe notes that a shift in the market may make things more and more important. Meanwhile, sources said the Edmonton Oilers are looking at three possible PTO options. Finally, is there any latest news about Jack Roslovic’s identity, who will sign with a team in the next few days?

Canadian, Hutson in prolonged positive early negotiations

RG’s Marco D’Amico wrote that Montreal Canadians and 21-year-old defensive player Lane Hutson gave a friendly speech ahead of next summer’s RFA qualification. Eligible for signing since July 1, Hutson falls under the NHL’s 10.2(c) category, meaning he has no arbitration rights or quotation form qualifications – providing Montreal with strong leverage.

Insiders say while some compare his upcoming deal to Noah Dobson’s eight-year AAV contract, insiders say Dobson’s near-Dobson identity, right-recorded profile and top work give him more bargaining power. Hutson’s situation is more consistent with the recent 10.2(c) RFA signings, such as Quinn Hughes, Jake Sanderson and Brock Faber, who have received long-term deals worth about 9-9.5% of the salary cap. With the upper limit expected to be $104 million, this could put Hutson’s AAV between $8.8 million and $9.5 million.

D’Amico also noted that the fast-rise ceiling is also creating a “market reset” with some RFAs opting for shorter terms to capitalize later. While it is unlikely that Hutson’s bridge agreement is considered, both parties relied on the six- to eight-year options to secure his golden years without putting future income on the table.

Sources stressed that there is no tension and urgency – expectation is a deal, and Hutson has made it clear that he wants to stay in Montreal for a long time.

Oil people see 3 PTO options?

The 2 Mutts podcast report notes that the Edmonton Oilers are working on three PTO options – two forwards and one goalkeeper. Although the source is questionable, the logic behind the report makes sense. Oilers have little money to spend on free agents and no trade brewing, which is the time players start looking for trial opportunities.

The report conveniently did not mention the name. Fans following the account mentioned players like Ilya Samsonov, Klim Kostin, and even Max Pacioretty. There is no confirmation that the Oilers have reached out with any of these players to assess their interest in entering the camp.

Kostin seems to be the most logical choice here. He has a history in the Oilers team and really likes the team. He can play a deep role in a two-way contract. He may not be a regular in the lineup, but he will understand his character and embrace it.

Jack Roslovic UFA latest

Our own Mark Scheig posted the latest news on his social media account after hitting unlimited free agent Jack Roslovic on Thursday. He noted: “I met Jack Roslovic this morning. Many people around the league want to know what happened. There is nothing new. This will get anything new in the coming days and weeks. Until the agreement is completed.

Roslovic is linked to several teams, and Elliotte Friedman reported the latest 32 thought podcasts, saying five or six clubs showed a variety of interests. It is not clear whether the forward is waiting for the cap space to be released, with some numbers, or just not getting a quote from the team he is interested in.
